Gender and Work
ITT Technical Institution
When you think about the past and all the changes that have happened one of the first large changes are the roles for men and women whether it be in the work force or in the household (Taylor, Peplau, & Sears, 2007). In the workplace the three major changes that I have seen are: 1. You can have a women boss, 2. There are more women working than men, and 3. Women have more education than some men. All these changes to me are a positive part of our future and with having a new daughter I want her to be successful in all her endeavors and I hope not only she will be a mom one day but also a great business women or even a doctor. Roles in the household are complete different as well from decades ago. The three major changes that I can see are: 1. Women are not staying in the household they also have jobs, 2. Dads of the household are helping out with kids getting ready for school, waking up with them in the middle of the night, and being around more, and 3. Men are doing what they use to call women jobs, going to the grocery store, cleaning the house, and cooking. All these changes are positive, yes I can honestly say being a man my wife still does a lot more in our household than I do but I am learning how to help her out and be a team. With time we are moving towards being equal in all aspects of life (except for child birth).
