Before birth.Down Syndrome|  At the time of conception a baby inherits genetic information from its parents.| * Hearing problems this is because bones of the middle and inner ear may develop differently in children with the syndrome.  * Eye problems, the child may have a squint, their eyes may turn towards the nose/middle and they may need glasses as are usually short sighted or long sighted. * Bone, muscle, nerve, or joint problems * Immune system problems * Developmental delay| Before birth.Cystic Fibrosis | Cystic Fibrosis is inherited from the child’s parents genes or DNA| * Children with cystic fibrosis usually suffer from really bad chest infections. * It affects other systems in the body. It is difficult for children to get nutrients from their food. * They are likely to have problems with their bowel movements. * The child may develop diabetes.

During Pregnancy.Rubella| If mother catches rubella during pregnancy it would affect the foetus.| Rubella could cause the mother to have a miscarriage, stillbirth or birth defects in unborn children such as: * Deafness * Brain damage * Cataracts * Heart defects | During pregnancy HIV| If the mother has caught HIV then there is a 50% chance of the child being born with it.| Being HIV-positive will put you at a higher risk for complications such as: * Preterm birth: this is when the baby is at risk of being born before your due or before 37 weeks. * Intrauterine growth restriction: this is when the child is at risk of being smaller than expected and their weight may be low. * Still birth: this is when the baby is born, but has died in the mother’s womb.| After birth Physical Damage| Child may have had an accident which has meant that they have got physical damage. E.g. a child is paralysed from the waist down and has to use a wheelchair.| * The child may now have to be wheelchair bound. * If the child...
